I went to work today and many days lately thinking about my attitude towards work, my work "baggage", my responsibilities and where I would like to go in this career.
Don't let the past affect your present.
Maybe a co-worker or management has "done you wrong" at work, but don't carry that resentment around and allow it to color your words, tone and attitude in all the things you discuss regarding work. No one wants to work with someone like that and no one is going to promote someone like that (most of the time).
Don't let the present affect your decision to prepare for the future.
It is said that you should dress and work at a level equal to the next position higher than the one you have. Meaning you may not be promoted yet, but you should be working at that level now in the due diligence of your daily duties... Your work ethic should reflect the level of responsibility reflected at that higher level. That person will get promoted.
The bible says:
My life is an example to many because you have been my strength and protection. Psalm 71:7
It is better to trust the Lord than to put confidence in people. Psalm 119:8
Commit everything you do to the Lord, trust in Him and He'll help you. Psalm 37:5
He did what was pleasing in the Lord's sight. He did not turn aside from doing what was right. 2 Chronicles 34:2
Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Speak what is not as though it is and it will be. Gen 1:3 (paraphrased)

You are an example and God is watching, others are watching and you are their Light and hope. Don't put your confidence in people, or the system, but in God. Be aware of what He can and is doing in your life and the lives around you. Don't be a hindrance to God's efforts through a worldly self-centered attitude.
Work your job for Jesus...not humans. Jesus is your true employer, if you lose your job, you go to Jesus asking what the next assignment is...and you speak words of LIFE in this area.
Have a work ethic that would make Jesus smile. He is the one who said, in Matthew 5:41, If a soldier (this was a Roman law) demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles. That means go above and beyond what is required (or asked) and do it with a good attitude.
Do the right thing at the right time. Include Jesus in your day, enjoy His presence and He will give you the desires of your heart - in His timing.
Most of all, speak words over your life for how you want it to be. Not arrogantly, but confidently. Thank God for what you do not yet see, but what you expect Him to do in your life. Be thankful... It's easier to bless a thankful heart than a grumbling one. Don't be your own stumbling block in your attitude.
With a positive, hopeful, helpful attitude, you will draw others to you and you will BE a positive influence that might even influence your promotion... With God as your business partner anything is possible...
Be Blessed!
