What is coming between you and God?
Yourself? Your loved ones? Your job? Things?
I am selling off 80% or more of what I own. I'm streamlining my life to reduce the clutter, distractions and that incessant "to do" list that keeps my mind tied up and unavailable to God.
I find that I don't truly relax in my own home because I always have a "to do" list. I may feel God pulling me to spend time with Him and instead I'm doing other things that "have to be done". While this isn't everyone's option, my choice is to streamline my belongings and get rid of "things" that require my time and mental effort. They are just things after all. This includes memorbilia or things I've carried around for years. I plan to take a photo of that item and put it into an album. Then it's getting sold or given away.
I can't tolerate all of the "things" that come between me and God anymore. God is my priority and He is first. I don't want anything coming between us. And while it is inevitable that "stuff happens", this is my small part in reducing the competing priorities that draw me away from God.
When my mind is uncluttered and I am in my house, just being, God can drop some insight into my head or just pull me to spend time with Him and I do. There's something so awesome about stopping the busyness and getting down to the business of relationship with God. Because that's what it is - - Relationship.
And it's powerful - if you give it a chance.
