Have you ever gotten deeply and emotionally wrapped up in another human being? Whether a spouse, child, loved one. Someone you were so attached to that you didn't know what you would do if you ever had to live without them?
Think of the things that we experience in this lifetime that are so tied to our core and affect us so strongly and make us feel so vulnerable and at risk of loss and yet they allow us to feel so deeply.
Yet in a way, by making that person such a central part of our life, they become like a god to us. They become so important that we would refuse if God were to ask us to give them up. This attitude can carry over to other parts of our life, to a career, a position, a lifestyle, owning things, having certain opportunities available to us, etc.
Often it is assumed that if God would as usk to give something up that is so important to us that He must not care.
Think carefully about the things that you care about, whether or not you would willingly give them up and if you wouldn't...ask yourself why and get specific.
What do you really know about God? What kinds of negative assumptions do you make about God - even subconsciously?
He's mean? He punishes?
He just wants to control you?
He is impersonal and doesn't care?
He's all about rules?
He isn't any fun? (Can you honestly say that with a straight face about the author of SEX????)
He doesn't understand?
He doesn't know love like you do?
He couldn't possibly understand what kind of sacrifice that would be for you?
I've asked some of these questions myself in times past. And anyone who DOES ask these questions either has forgotten or doesn't know God's personality very well. As I didn't used to.
• GOD IS PERSONAL
• SEEK TO UNDERSTAND GOD THROUGH OTHER BELIEVERS
• SEEK TO UNDERSTAND GOD IN BOOKS
• GET TO KNOW GOD'S PERSONALITY
• LEARN THE VALIDITY OF THE BIBLE
• BLIND FAITH? IS IT REALLY?
• THE BIG PICTURE - GOD'S PERSPECTIVE
[I will go into more detail in another blog, use search word “Personal” in my key words to find it.]
Know that your Father in heaven cared enough to come to earth to walk in your shoes, be tempted as you are and to be sacrificed to save YOU.
He CAN relate,
He is personal,
He is relevant
and He loves you dearly – right where you are.
